Hello everyone.
My lab puppy is growing pretty fast even though he is only only 16 and a half weeks old. Can anyone tell me when they advise to change from puppy biscuits onto adult dog food. I've been told that it is 6 months? Have most of you done this?
Thanks,
Claire

I changed Bailey(Lab) onto Adult food at about 10months when the sack of puppy food ran out.

I know its different with smaller breeds but after asking the same question on here about my 6 month old Border Terrier I switched her onto adult at 6mnths with no problems.

Do you not keep them on puppy food until 12 months??

Being different as usual, I change over to adult with my Labradors as soon as possible. 16 to 20 weeks is it as far as I'm concerned. But of course I date back to the time when there was no such thing as "Puppy Food" and our puppies were quite happy being weaned straight onto adult food.

You are showing your age there John.
I put my dog on adult food at about 6months.

When we found out that we could get adult food in bulk, we changed over at about 8mnths.

Hi, We changed ours over at 10months, although your pup may be growing fast he will still need all the nutrients of his puppy food like protein etc, if you have a look at the adult version of the food you use you will see that the only difference is in the percentages of the makeup. We use JW puppy and they go onto Junior at 6 months then adult at 10 months, the only difference between them all is the protein % which reduces as you go up.
I hope this helps you.

It is more difficult when you have an adult and a pup - I have a 4yr springer and 9 month cocker. During the working season I was quite happy for the 4yr old to help with the puppy food but now the season is over they are both on adult food. I was never sure who ate what anyway despite my best efforts at supervising. She is growing well - very well infact - and I just make sure she has enough. It makes it so much easier to just feed one type and as long as she has had the best possible start I am confident she won't be harmed by adult food a few months earlier than they recommend.
