Topic Dog Boards / Health / To Spay or not ?
- By yorkiedad [gb] Date 11.02.03 19:29 UTC
Hi All,
We have a 4 month old Yorkie bitch, and as we do not intend to breed from her we were considering getting her spayed, my questions are, is it recommended ?, are there likely to be changes in her character, are there any serious reasons not to have her done, and what is the best age to have her done.

Thanks

I think its best to let them have atleast one season before you get it done although some vets like to do them before at about 6months. I dont think there will be any changes in her character but she may be prone to weight problems so you will need to keep an eye on her diet.

I had 2 of my boston pups fixed at 5 months (1male, 1 female), I free feed them and neither one has gained weight (they are perfect for their weight). All they get is one treat a week after I clip nails. Sometimes maybe one a day depends. They are really active and stay in shape. I think it depends on how and what u feed ur dog as well as the exercise. She was fixed before her first heat.

ttfn :)

Hi
There are many many good health points to having your little girl spayed, if you don't intend to breed..wait three months after her first season and go for it. :)
