Hi,

Just a quick question about keeping up an affix. I have had mine for 2 years, and both the dogs have it attached to their names. However, with cleo now spayed i dont see the point in paying £20 a year for something that i wont use again myself... or even if i do, it wont be for a goodly number of years.

I understand that if Solo does well in the ring then i may still want to be associated with the affix (Littlestaff), but can always get another one when i come to breed/get serious.

My question is 2-fold then : do you think that this is a sensible approach? And will my not keeping up the affix affect their registered names?

I hope this makes sense!

If you don't keep the affix up then someone else could come along and use it. There's no guarantee that the new person will be any good and that would then reflect badly on your dogs - if that makes sense.

If it was me I'd keep the affix up and pay by direct debit each year - that'll save you £3.

PS - When are you coming to see Lara???? :D

The only trouble is , when you DO decide you want an affix , you may not be able to get the same one again ..someone else may have got it after you let it drop.

I don't think it will affect the dogs that you have ..after all , their names are registered at the KC . What if someone with the same breed picks up on your affix and then produces really terrible dogs :D How will that make you feel ?

Hope that helps a little bit?

Hi,

I do agree with both of you - but the kc certainly take libities - the affix fee has gone up so much year on year its ridiculous!

I think if (or when) i come to getting a brood bitch - not for some years nw, and definately not until cleo has gone - i will egt myslef another very different affix, by which time solo will be out of action anyway!

Still annoying though!

Alex

PS. Some time next week i was thinking... have to find out what days i am working in the offy - fitting part time job for me, big discount! - and have to break it to them that i am leaving! Would that be ok for you?

Correct me if I'm wrong but it costs £40 or £50 to set your unused affix back up again I think!! I know it did my mum a few years back now.

No w that sounds more like it! Whats the point in paying for it every year if i;m not going to use it until later - adn to b honest i dont see many other people really wanting to steal that one from me!

personally I would keep it up. I wouldn't want to risk someone else getting it and not being responsible breeders etc. You may not be breeding but you still may buy something in & want to put your affix on the end of its name.

I'd want to keep it too, I wdn't allow mine to lapse again, because as the other person says you don't know who would take it on next and if anything happened with them it wd. still come back to you in years to come because people wdn't know that a totally different person was owining it now.
