Any vinyl floor experts out there?? I have rubber backed rugs in my kitchen. I picked them up today to mop the floor. I now have yellow flooring where the rugs were. I tried to wash it off, but no luck. Any suggestions of what I can use to get it off? Shirl :-(

Many years ago I used to work for a flooring company. Dredging through the last remnants of memory, I think this may be "plasticiser migration" from the rubber backing to the vinyl (or the other way round). Either way, if it is this, it's a chemical reaction between the vinyl and the rubber. It's 20 years since I worked for that company, and something may well have come on the market about this problem, but at that time it was impossible to cure. :(

It would be worth going into a flooring specialist shop and asking if there is anything. I know it used to be a big problem because the adhesive in the tape used to fix the vinyl would affect the vinyl itself....very many understandably outraged homeowners! So they may have come up with something to overcome the effects....if indeed that is what it is. (Sounds rather like it, though :()(The "plasticiser" is what makes the flooring flexible so that it can be rolled.)

I'm sure this is what it is. I have three area rugs and now I have three spots on the floor where they were. :-( I'll do that, go to a specialist shop and see if I can find something. Thanks!! Shirl :D
