is there anybody who can help my father.he has an afghan hound (bitch) which is nearly four years old. he wants to breed her but is finding it hard to find others breeders in the manchester area.

Hello guest , you father needs to make sure that his bitch is an outstanding example of her breed and also has had all the relevant health checks. After that , I would suggest he goes back to the breeder he bought her from and ask him/her for their advise

If the bitch's breeder is reputable and trying to breed good examples of the breed they will be more than happy to advise. They should know her bloodlines well, and which male lines may complement her. She may not be of breeding quality, and they should be able to tell you what her strengths and weaknesses are. If they do9n't tell him what the rfailings are as well as any good points, I would expect they are not very knowledgeable.

On the other hand if they are just a puppy producer they may not be interested in helping, or too interested in getting her mated to any old dog, and making something out of it!

Basically if she came from the second kind of breeeder it is doubtful if she is up to the quality needed for a brood bitch.

Lastly bear in mind that breading is a serious business caryying the responsibility for the lives produced. Sight hounds are a special group of sogs and are unsuited to most average pet homes. There is the grooming and the excersise and the need for a lot of careful training.

Is he sure that it is a good idea to breed .Afghan hound puppies are not the easiest of pups to sell and what if she should have 10 or more pups, Has he considered the cost of the rearing of the puppies alone without any other things that might crop up, vet bills etc Does he show his bitch,is she an excellent speciman of the breed in regards to comformation and temperment does he realise the cost of stud fees they can be between £500 to £800 depending on what dog he wanted to use.And most afghan stud dog owners i know wouldn't consider letting any of their dogs go to just any bitch ..As the owner of an afghan male i know i wouldn't not for any price.He really needs to think long and hard before deciding to breed from his bitch, there are already enough well respected and reknowned breeders out there already.
