I`m considering putting a sandpit in my kennel run to detract my huskies from digging up my plants in the garden. has anyone had any success with these or has the dog used them as a toilet instead. i`m due to pick them up in a couple of weeks so I need to start digging now!
i`m also not sure what size it should be, how dig to dig it, or the best way to build it, type of sand to use.
Any advice would be much appreciated!
Thanks

Our Malamute loves his sandpit, and has never used it as a wc, although some people have had that problem. We use plain builders sand as it is cheap and just top it up. We find that the rain and the digging soon dispose of any surplus 'yellow dye' in the sand. If you want to avoid that problem you can use play sand for kiddies sandpits.
Our sand pit is also in the middle of paving slabe and we lined the sides of the pit with slabs so that the surrounding area wasn't undermined by tunelling. It also makes it easier to sweep sand back into the pit.
