Are you sure you will be able to cope? It sounds asif the one lab, which is a chewer I believe, is enough for the moment. One chewer is easier than two chewers!

It is much easier to train one pup than it is to train two!

Two things that you might like to consider if you are contemplating getting another dog as company for your puppy: firstly, it is very likely that a rescue dog will have some kind of behavioural problem. Do you really want to chance that this might be passed on to your puppy ? Secondly, it would be in your/your puppy's long term interests to build up a bond and get to know your puppy really well before introducing another dog into the equation. I am not saying don't get another dog, but why not wait until you have got used to this little one first :-) They are puppies for such a short time. Make the most of it whilst you can.

From another angle and looking years down the line. Have you considered that if you have two dogs that are roughly the same ages, you are going to lose them at roughly the same time too?

Rest.

Hi again Weggo

I have to agree again with what others have said - another dog at this stage could be a disaster. Again, have just spotted your othet posts so now know how old your lab is and also that you have some concerns at the mo about her own health.

Your young lab is busy settling in and growing up herself - to bring an older one in could cause significant problems. Better to wait until your pup has matured a little more - say another year or so. Added to the fact that she looks to be showing signs of having some sort of hernia - getting another dog at the mo really should be the last thing on your mind.

You have a lot of work to do with your girl if she is to be a well behaved and happy dog. trying to train two is a nigthmare, and if you go for a rescue dog, s/he is likely to have very special training needs and may not take kindly to a new home with a lively pup in it - as well as four cats.

It's very tempting to want two dogs straightaway, I know I did - but I was persuaded by those that know to wait until my first was fully grown and well settled before getting a pup. I did and am so glad. You will have all your time and energy taken with your current pup. Bringing in another dog - poss with problems will undermine what you have already acheived and is far more likely to cause you regrets than happiness for all. Plus, make the most of your lab's puppyhood - it goes so quick - then get another and enjopy that too. :-)

Hi Weggo

And by then she will be perfectly behaved (with lots of work on your part) and will be able to help with training your new pup - either that or revert to puppy-hood herself :-)

Have fun

Christine

Hi Weggo

That's great - well done. I'm sure you'll have a great time over the coming months getting your little girl into a lovely lady :-)

I agree with the others, i always say it is best to wait til they are over two and grown up! As for playmates, once you have checked on this pos health matter, when you start training classes you will meet lots of other owners and their dogs. When you start your walking you will also meet people with theri dogs, you will soon become one of a band of regulars, amd you and your pup will get to know lots of friends to play with.
