I have a femail pomeranian, she over three years old, maybe five. We saw
a picture of her in a pet supplies store, FREE to good home, she had no
papers. How can I get papers for her. I am breeding her for the first
time, have never done this before so I am VERY< VERY green. How much can I sell the pupies for with out papers ?? Can I ask more for female dogs, give me a good book to read on these kind of dogs.

Is it just me? Can this be for real?

Don't know Sam, but I feel it is safer to treat as if it is true and advise accordingly (ie, don't do it), in the hope that the enquirer will listen more to polite advice than abuse.

I wasn't being abusive.....it just took me 10 minutes to get up off the floor after reading the "request" 'cos I find it hard to believe people can be like this, thats all!

My apologies Sam, I never for one moment meant to suggest that you were being abusive. What I was really trying to say was that I have seen previous similar queries being answered rather aggressively and feel that those reactions are counter-productive and guaranteed to get the original enquirers back up.
My own reactions were much the same as yours and I do apologise if my reply to you read as if I was accusing you of anything, I certainly never meant to.

I really would not recommend breeding from this bitch. You do not have papers for her and would not be able to get any as you know absolutely nothing about her background. In any case dogs have to be registered by their breeder and as you don't know her breeder this can't be done. I am talking about the UK but the situation is, I am sure, very similar in other parts of the world.
If your girl is as old as 5 she is too old to have a first litter. Also I would ask you to consider how much a pregnancy might cost you, including the possibilities of a Caesar, which might well wipe out any possible profits from the puppies. A pom is highly unlikely to have many puppies anyway, quite possibly 1 or 2 and you will not get much for them as they will be unregistered. With the risks of a pregnancy you might well lose all the pups and even the mother. Having puppies is NOT a money making procedure and should never be undertaken lightly. It took me over 8 years to consider I was in a situation to have my first litter and when I did start I had so much help and advice from others in my breed, and spent so much time planning which dog to use to improve the black and tans within the breed.
Please, please, think again about breeding from this girl. Enjoy her as a pet and companion and if you do want to think about breeding plan to buy the best possible pup you can find from a reputable breeder who will help you in the future, get all the medical tests done and read as much as you can about your chosen breed. Visit dog shows to see the dogs being shown and decide what you want from any puppies before making any decisions at all about breeding.
Where are you from?

Hi Guest
Joan has covered many points - others to consider are that your girl's age may be very different to what you think, these small dogs are often much older than they appear.
You admit to being green so why not treat her purely as a pet, especially as you don't know what has happened to her in the past. Learn about the breed, research it and then, when you are ready for another one go to a reputable breeder, and, maybe, if that pup is a good enough specimen of the breed then consider having a litter

Guest,
Although I wouldn't advise breeding from this dog, if she is currently expecting I can help/advise you as best possible. E-mail me on donnamwilliams1@excite.com.
If she is not expecting I would advise you not to breed with her as you have not background of the dog, i.e. pedigree, KC registration, temprement.

I would advise that you buy the Book of the Bitch which you can get at any good pet shop also books about pomeranians. I certainly would not advise breeding from this bitch especially if she is not k.c. registered also she sounds as if she is too old for a first litter, my friend has poms, and every time she has a litter she only has either one or two pups and the bitch needs a ceserean operation which costs about £250 along with vet checks and other vet bills this can be very costly and I would think twice about breeding from this bitch as you will get very little money for the pups not even enough to cover vet bills.

hi everyone i totally agree. did this person buy this dog purly for a puppy producer
in the gains of making money or as a pet?????
as a pet (i dont think so )
perhaps that is a bit rude i do appologise. but if i got a dog that age and without the papers it would be solely a pet ( i feel that should be the reason for any dog or cat) even though i have a pup she is my baby and if she couldnt have a litter so be it ,even if she could i think now i would think twice as there are so many things that could go wrong so i wouldnt want to place her in any danger
