hi my westie is coming up to 4 months old.
he is lovely confident and playful.
he is excellent in the house traing department.
the thing is if i go upstairs even for a few minutes (i have a stair gate)
he cries and poops or wee,s while i have gone.
he scratches at the stairgate.
i have to put him in his crate even though i go upstairs to open curtains for example.
i am wondering will he grow out of this.
he has constant access to the garden which he does all his business and never has an accident until i leave the room.
even when my children and husband are down stairs he still cries.
i had a lie in this morning (woo woo) and rob brought him down stairs.
but he still pinned after me.
i know he is still a baby.
he loves rob and the boys but never does this when they leave the room.
i am at home with toddy all day.

Hi
He's crying for his mummy and is having a tantrum when you leave him.He will grow out of it though. Most pups go through this as they don't want to be left for a minute.:)

Hi there,

I have 2 westies so thought I would post to reassure you he will be fine. He is only a baby yet. He will learn you are coming back.

While he is still learning to go outside it is worth while keeping him the kitchen when you have to be upstairs etc. It is also worth while making a point of going out for a hour and leaving him in his cage so he knows this is his safe place etc whilst you are out.

I find both of mine are mummys babies but are fine on their own also now.

Both of mine sleep in the kitchen also.

PS forgot to add and you may have heard this don't let him go up and down the stairs until at least a year old. It is not good for his legs.

hi pamela,
thanks for the advice i have a stair gate on the stairs for him
and at bedtime i carry him up and down the stairs.
he sleeps in a crate upstairs in our room
(couldnot bear him crying the first night we got him.)
it works out well he can hear my boys get up in the morning and see them so he feels secure that we are all together.
i have left him in his crate daily when i take the boys to school and pick them up or when i go shopping he is doing well he feels more secure in it.
it was just the fact he cant see me when i go upstairs to do chores,
that he poops or wees. but now i have been told he will grow out of it i feel much better.
thank you
