Hiya

First time here & I really hope someone can help. We have a new member of the family - Molly who is a Westie, she is 8 1/2 weeks old, and we brought her home yesterday ( Saturday ). Although she is quite playful & VERY loving, she seems to want to sleep a lot. In general she is a really happy jolly puppy, and as I have not had a puppy before, I just want to check this is ok.
Thanks. Lindsey

Puppies do sleep a lot. They have a lot of new things to experience and a lot of growing to do and it all takes its toll!:) Don't worry; it won't be very long before you wish she'd sleep a little more. :D

Hi Lindsey

Welcome to Champdogs.

Puppies do sleep a lot -most of the day in fact although it rarely seems like it. They will wake up to poo, pee, eat and play then in what seems to be the middle of a mad five minutes will suddenly go to sleep. Have a word with your breeder and then vet if you think Molly is sleeping too much but from your description it sounds like she is a normal pup.

Welcome, Lindsey!

Puppies do sleep a lot (or should). Their lives are divided into short sections; sleep, wee/poo, play, wee/poo, eat, wee/poo/, play, wee/poo, sleep. I've found this series takes about 4 hours to complete.

I always recommend new puppy owners buy "The Perfect Puppy" by Gwen Bailey, and the Pet Owner's Guide to (your breed). Between them you should find most things covered, and help you get the most from your new family member! :)

Have fun!

Hi Lindsay :D
Your question was the first one I ever asked when I came on to this Board a year ago. Barney was very lively the first day and then slept all the next day and I was worried but as you have seen there is nothing to be worried about at all :) :)

Hi Lynsey, When I brought my pup home 7 weeks ago, she slept on my shoulder for hours. (yorkie) I loved every minute of it too!!! We had time to bond. But now, 7 weeks latter, I'm lucky if she sleeps 2 hours a day!! She is very nosey, has to know what is going on with everyone in the house. Don't worry, they need that sleep. Shirl :D
