Hi me again. Max has been licking his right back paw quite a lot today. On examination underneath between the pads the skin is red raw. This explains why the licking. We cant see anything on the skin like thorns or anything. Anyone got any ideas whats wrong ?

One of my Beardies used to get this, vet can give you something to help or Grapefruit Seed Extract from health shop is meant to be good for this sort of thing. Saw more details on another list so can check it out for you if you like

If he is licking lots please be careful.
Our Bordeaux bitch was limping slightly last Saturday when she got up. I checked her feet and leg but there was nothing swollen nor cut. I presumed she had maybe been lying funny as it seemed to get better as she walke around.
However a couple of hours later her foot had swollen twice its normal size and was bleeding. On checking the foot she had CHEWED at her main front pad and had actually chewed half of it off!!! :-(
We took her sraight to the vets and she had all the necessary treatment /dressings. The vet seems to think it was some sort of bite which is why I could see nothing when I checked!
Now a week on and she is still having to go to the vets every couple of days and have it re-packed and dressed.
If the dog is licking there alot worth getting checked by the vet as if they are sore they will self trauma themselves, they think they can bite away the pain???
