Hello there,

Had to take my little lad to the vets this morning (16 wk old mini schnauzer).
He was yelping and screaming everytime we picked him up..I was soooo worried! :-(

Anyway, seems he may have done the "splits" and torn some soft tissue under his front leg, meaning no walkies for Rufus for a while. This can happen when they chase a ball and their legs sort of go scewwhiff from under them (and his area his all laminated - so very likely)
He is on anti inflammatries, Check up on tuesday and vet said can take up to 5 weeks to heal.

I am so upset, although Rufus is still acting his normal loving happy self - but he has to have complete rest till tues (hope he doesn't think he is being punished)
When they were doing reflex tests etc and he was crying and yelping, I felt like crying my eyes out. I love him so much and he looked so helpless, it was awful.

Has this happened to anyone else, are there any long term affects?

Me and Mark were heartbroken this morning...

When my beautiful black lab (sadly gone now) was a pup she did the splits on the lino, it didn't really bother her during life, but she did swim most days which I am sure helped, maybe you could ask your vet or local hydrotherapy pool if they think that may help when he has recovered a bit, I have seen quite a few pups at the pool where I take my current arthritic dog, they put them in little life jackets to start with, very sweet!

The best of luck with your pup, might be worth putting a few cheap rugs around until he is a bit happier on his legs

Hayley :)
