i have a choc lab, on her coat you can see flecks of black fur also she has a lighter brown coloured main, would this pose any problems showing her
very ,very novice not a clue first time wanting to show lab owner

how old is your lab? is she losing her coat? the trouble with chocs is that when they are about to lose coat they look awful and it takes a while for their coat to come back we had a gogeous choc puppy years ago he went out of coat and I couldnt show him for a year, not that its common with all,did you by her to show?if so ask the breeder to look at her to see if she is suitable. if you go on pedigree dogs site the lab breed note writer (at present) is a chocolate breeder and she may be more help.

dear mattie
thanks for your advice i will do that by the way she is only 14 weeks, but when we got her we did say we were planning to show her .this condition has happened after we got her. it might be nothing because you can only notice it when grooming

is this the same pup that might have a hernia, has working and show in its pedigree,if so and you told the breeders you wanted to show it i think you should contact them, normally the show ones are show only bred and most working have all working,of course there are people who do both but normally they stick to the type of pedigree that will produce the type of lab they need for the job in hand-showing or working, also if it is the pup with the hernia she cant be shown or bred from ,as with the type of hernia it sounds to be it cant be left! hope the breeders will advise you.

hi dizzy
i didnt know there was a difference , on her pedigree there are three champions
also the breeder had mentioned previous pups by her mother were used as working dogs, some as household pets also when we expressed an interest in showing her she was pleased by that fact ,also shed wished she had kept her because she was very dark chocolate.
i hope she has not got a hernia ,is there a poss that it could be glands as it is a v shape leading from her (female genitals) i didnt know how to put it
she has been checked by a vet who could not detect anything as such
i know there is a big difference but our cat has fatty lunps could it be this (long shot)

hi dizzy the checkup was a week ago when she got checked for her ear infection
surely the vet would had noticed the hernia then

the pup that i that had one had had a health check from the vet and passed with flying colours,as i've said its not until you hold them in certain positions that you can tell there's a problem,go and place her as i suggested ,i really dont think it could be anything else, you'll have to keep your fingers crossed and take her to the vets and ask him to check for it,dont forget least said, soonest mended,

hi weggo, have you been to any dog shows at all,it would be good for you to get the dog papers and find some nearby go and meet some breeders and ask questions, see some show labs and compare them with yours, training clubs are nice too you can socialise your puppy and there again if theres anyone in labs there I am sure they would advise you if your puppy was show quality (if you asked them)
usually as previous posting says work strain and show strain are quite different, but I know some good working labs who are show quality and vice versa, but they are not a majority.good luck
