Hi, has anyone got any tips on how to stop my puppy from picking up his water bowl and running off with it?. On one hand its funny and he looks so cute but on the other we end up with water everywhere and wet feet. At the moment i end up giving him some water and then picking up the bowl and putting it on the side. I do not like this as I feel i am restricting him on how much and often he drinks.
Any ideas?

We use S/S bowl drill two holes in the side and wire it to the wall. All the pups I have ever had have upturned or dug in the water bowl. Jackie

my flatcoat puppy paddles and trys to swim in his water bowl, the room looks like a swiiming pool when he had finshed playing in it,but they are only puppies for a short time,

My in-laws have put a large rock in the bottom of their dogs bowl as she used to pick the bowl up and empty it all over her bed :D
The rock is far too big for her to be able to pick up and too heavy for her to be able to knock the bowl over.

If you have a bowl with a hollow underneath, you could do what some friends did with their children's potty - fill it with concrete :D

There's also the type of bowl that probably could be described similar to an upside down sailor's hat. The shape extends out from the bowl area with a slant. It's hard to pick up by hands, so I don't think a dog could easily pick it up with its teeth :)

I have had the same probs with my dogs, they now have a huge bucket outside which is filled with water and they go outside for a drink, far to heavy for them to lift as I can just about manage myself :)
Although I have the problem with food bowls they all have the stainless stell ones but one of the litle devils keeps picking it up and running around the garden with it leaving a trail of dog food
Dogs dont you just love them :D

Reading Jackie's post, why not drill one hole in the bottom and nail it to the floor? Soweeeee
"The Flower" never disturbs hers for as long as there is anything in it but if she ever finds it empty she picks it up and makes the maximum noise with it! (It's stainless steel)

Kassie did this with the stainless steel ones so I bought a ceramic one and found it broken in the garden and a very lucky puppy to still have four paws intact:o Thankfully as she's getting older it's a habit she's grown out of but she does still give it a bash as John says if it's empty:) Otherwise she leaves it alone:)

Why not try distracting your pup with a favourite toy, my molly did this sort of thing when she was little but i found out if you chase them for it, the whole thing just becomes one big game of 'catch the water bowl'( or whatever else it maybe your trying to retrieve )or you could always ignore it and the pup may get fed up off playing this game.

Callum use to do this when he was a puppy, he would tip it up all over the floor so i went out and bought the biggest, heaviest, bowl i could find and it seem to do the trick, the only thing now, having got Buffy when she has a drink her ears are always soaking wet where they flop in it:D

I think you should give your puppy the bowl let him/her place it where he/she likes and then fill up the bowl. Then maybe she will stop moving the bowl!

You have brought back some memorys for me with out late BC tubbs he used to fling his water bowl around the kitchen to tell us he was hungrey ! :P my brother and I were very young then and we used to just fall around laughing which did not help as tubbs thought this was such a good game! Mum and dad had diffrent ideas I must say  ! The only thing to do is get a heavy large bowl? Good luck hope you have dry feet soon! Julieann :)
