I am currently thinking about setting up a small grooming business from home. I want to gain as much information as possible i.e pit falls, suggested business plans, what equipment to start up with etc. I have searched everywhere for specialised books in this field to no avail. Can you recommend any.

Can't recommend any books but I would certainly recommend investing in a good quality training course. Untrained groomers start in my area regularly, but disappear within 6 months because nobody goes back for a second time! If you choose to start to work untrained, then take out a good insurance! One local girl clipped off a nipple, cut off the tip of a tail and then burned a band around a neck!
If you trim to the breed standard, clients will travel miles to come to you. Sheep shearers are two a penny!

Just another thought Guest! Make sure that you clear it with your council before you start, and get permission in writing. I know of 2 groomers who were stopped when they placed their first adverts, because they hadn't cleared the situation first.

When i decided to become a groomer and work from home , looked into it for months then i went on London Grooming Academy and trained with some of the best groomers in the country, don't get me wrong it did cost an awful lot but it was well worth it, there are alot of people out there who have been grooming for 5 mins and already taking peoples money to train them so please go to a respectable place, they will advise the equipment that you will need to start and also of councils , insurance etc.
best to do it the right way.
Good Luck in your venture.
