Topic Dog Boards / Visitors Questions / american cocker question

hello,
i hope nobody minds but i have a really stupid question, with american cockers, when they r in their full show coat, have the top 1/3rd of the ears been clipped? and also have their backs? or is this just like normal cockers and is done by hand stripping?
thanks,
Lizzy

Hello Lizzy, I have four American Cockers, two of them are in full show coat, and two are in a short utility clip.I prepare all the coats myself. The show coats are indeed done by clipping the top third of the ear with electric clippers, the back coat however is hand stripped, finger and thumb. The undercoat is removed from the back by careful use of a stripping knife taking out only the soft fluffy hair. The top coat is carefully thinned out by the hand stripping. The ones I have in pet trim I just clipper all the way down their backs with a 7f oster blade, and I leave a frill around the sides like a little tutu. Cute Eh.
