Topic Dog Boards / Health / NEXT SEASON DUE?............

Hi :)

My friends have a Boxer from a friend of theres who did not want it after it had a litter :( The bitch had the litter in April last year and as far as they now every thing has gone fine :) They told my friends that she has a 6 month regular cycle (she is 3) and that she would be due in season soon, that was in October/ November time last year. It is now January and although I dont think they have any intention in breeding they are shocked/worried that she is not in season again, I spoke to my breeder and she said that bitches normally have a season about two months after the pups are born (dont now how much of this is true) so she will be due her next season any time now

What do you thin and is it right that they have a season 2 months after the pups are due?

To me that sounds very strange. My brood bitch had regular 8 month seasons. If we mated her she would duly have her litter after 9 and a bit weeks, raise the litter for another 8 weeks, and have her next season 8 months after the last - as if she hadn't been mated at all.

I've never heard of a bitch being in season so soon after a litter - but I've been known to be wrong.....

my bitch would come into season by the time the pups were 12 wks old and then have her next season as normal

My bitches who normaly have 26-28 week intervals between start of each season usually go a couple of weks longer if they have had a litter, the bigger the litter the longer. that means 30-35 weeks after start of the season they were mated on.

Keatah would normally go 6-7 months between seasons. She had her pups 6 months ago and came into season just last week, she went a bit longer.

My bitch has an eight to ten month cycle. She had her first litter seven months ago and is season now, so her eight to ten months cycle has returned.

Thanks for the replys.............

Do you think it is normal for the bitches season to have messed up her regular cycle since she has had the pups, the person they brought her off said she had a regular 6 month cycle, maybe the pups have messed things up a bit?

My bitch was born in March and the Dam didn't come back in season until Sept and now will most probably on her 6 month cycle from there- March etc etc:)
