I have a 1 yr. old female who is well past her first heat cycle, for those of you who don't know, well past means 3 months since she completed the cycle. Now she has milk!! I took her to the vet during her heat because who teats were a little swollen and was assured that this was normal hormonal change. If she were pregnant at that time she would have had the pups around the 1st week of december. Here it is the middle of January and she has milk. Athe same time she went into heat in october we brought an 8wk. old male home. We were told that part of this might a false mothering thing. She does care for tis pup as though it were her own but he has never suckled her. He is 5 months old now and she is not due for her next cycle until March/April but she has milk. Could this be an orphan thing? Why would she waited so long to get milk. I should mention they are not crated together unless somenone is right there in the room with them. They sleep in separate crates at night. Any non-sarcastic ideas would be appreciated!!!!
I had a similar thing happen with one of my ESS .She was a little older (2at the time) she had a very bad heat and about a week or so after the date pups would have been born had we mated her she started oozing milk from her teats. We had just aquired 2 weeks before, an 8 week old cavalier.Vet told us it was a phantom of sorts just her hormones playing up.I treated her homeopathicaly and her milk dried up and she was fine
Hope this helps
