It has been a dream of mine to import 2-4 promising longcoted chihuahuas to Iceland.
Thank you

I read somewhere that there was a limit of importing one pet per family into Iceland. I'm not certain if applied to both residents and non-residents...but you should check with
Iceland Embassy --importing pets to see what the restrictions are.

Longcoat Chihuahua Club UK would be able to discuss your 'dream' and see if you could fulfill it.
best wishes,

Hi Toodles!

I am aware of one woman who has imported at least two, possibly three Dobermanns into Iceland (according to her website, tragically one of these has albinism in its close ancestry so she is now infecting the Icelandic Dobermann community with this gene but which she seemed very proud of when the puppies were born).

A UK Dobermann was exported to Iceland and I seem to remember that the new owners had to do a lot to get it there as the restrictions were tight

Good luck with your longcoats guest

Christine

Hi Christine,
The 'one dog limit' is something that I only recently discovered applied to non-residents moving to Iceland. It could also just be a restriction for US military personnel.
We had been mulling over volunteering to go there for a short 18 month assignment. Needless to say, Iceland is now firmly off that list of future bases :( :( :(
But we still might take a short 'hop' up there to visit on vacation someday :D

That's too bad about the Dobe introducing albinoism. I really hope that you misread her tone. Otherwise, she could be 'proud about a rare breed' mutation. A horrifying thought :( :( :(

Unfortunately there are some people deliberately breeding this deleterious trait for it's rarity value. Both AKC and British kennel club have taken the step of identifying all stock with this trait behind them, as it is causing concern and controversy in the Dobe world.
