Topic Dog Boards / General / Raisins dangerous?!

On the agility.net website there is a story about a vizsla that has died from acute renal failure after eating 500g of raisins, it also mentions chocolate (I know of that one) and grapes?! Has anyone heard of these being dangerous, presumably in quantity, what do they contain that is dangerous?
Am quite worried as Dylan does love his fruit and veg.

Hello Hayley

Have a look [link http://www.champdogs.co.uk/cgi-bin/board/topic_show.pl?tid=17612&hilite=grapes#125950]HERE[/link] to see a recent thread about toxicity in grapes and raisins

Thanks Melody, I wonder how many grapes/raisins they would have to eat to be poorly, all my dogs have enjoyed the odd grape, usually given from a childs bowl - funny how the dogs are not given the odd quaver! - and I'm certainly not aware of them having any ill effects, maybe it is relative to the size of the dog. Grapes and raisins have been moved up a level in the kitchen just in case.
Thanks again, Hayley
