Hi Jo :)
There is 1 Munster gal among us who is a bit of a saint :D she might be along later. Try the Munsterlander pages her on Champdogs aswell.
You can also find some breed info here.
Hope that helps a little bit
Ali :)

Could it be me Ali????? St Lily of Munster????? ;)

Hi Scatty,

If you let me know what part of the country you are in, I will do my best to locate a breeder around that area you can contact. You can email me privately if you want, just click my name in blue and my email address will appear!

Pro's: Friendly, intelligent, active, attractive, great with kids, loving etc...

Con's: Can be noisy, love water-the dirtier the better, not good kennel dogs, some can be destructive (Although I think all breeds could be this way?), when they moult that b&w hair gets everywhere! As they are very dual-purpose still, they will hunt and can catch rabbits etc. so be prepared for that! Some can take their time to adjust to cats in the house too.

Hi Scatty, I can send your friend an information leaflet that's produced by the Large Munsterlander Club of Great Britain. Would that be any help? Also I recommned your friend sees some Munsters in action. I'm sure there will be someone in her area who will be happy to help. Good Luck, Eurochick

Can I ask why brown Munsterlanders are culled, when in small Munsterlanders they are perfectly acceptable.
Dawn.

Brown Munsters are rarely culled nowadays because there is a ready market for them from people wanting the Munsters looks but who are not bothered about lack of KC registration papers.

There are a few lines within the breed that carry the brown gene, it is indicative of the fact that Munsters were actually black & white German Long Haired Pointers before the Germans became colour conscious.

Also cross matings within Germany in the 1970's between Munsters & GLP's have introduced the brown gene back into the breeding lines.

Thanks for that. The best working one I know is brown.
Dawn.

Hi Dawn,

Would be interested to know where this brown one was from?

Small Munsters although sharing a similar name, share very little common ancestry with the Large Munsterlanders. Munsterlander basically indicates the region of Germany that the breed evolved from. Small (Kleiner) Munsterlanders will always be brown & white.

Large Munsterlanders are b&w GLP's and had it not been that the Germans thought b&w not so pure as brown & white, Munsters would stil have been GLP's. Because br&w to br&w only breeds br&w, this was more "pure", as b&w to b&w can produce brown pups!

Hi Dawn, small Munsterlanders only come in brown and white.
