Hi,

Not sure if I have put this in the right forum!

Can anyone tell me the approx age a Labrador would be likely to come into season? Barley is 6 months old, and I just wanted some warning so I can be ready for it! She's not shown any signs yet, and this is my first ever female dog Ive owned. Also whats the best age to get her spayed?

Thanks very much, nice site by the way!

hi mumza,
a bitch can come into season from 6 months on, some are as late as 12months, it just depends, some bitches can change slightly in temprement, may start urinateing more frequently and licking themselves more, they can also have a false start, wich means they can have a show of blood for a few days then stop, very little swelling, they could then start again two to three weeks time, it is wise to write down on the callender the first day you notice any blood and then count twelve days from there as this is when she will be in full season and ready to be mated, keep her away from male dogs from the twelth day up to ,to be on the safe side twenty second day,no walks in the park etc, some bitches may try to go in search of a male so watch she does not get out of your garden, personaly i would have a bitch spayed after her first season, regards tina
