Does anyone know why noses change colour, when my golden retriever bitch was a pup she had a black nose, then it went pinky brown, when she was pregnant it was black again and now it's gone back to brown. My male pup (6 Months) has a black nose now and his sister has brown. Is it to do with nutrition, hormones, neither or both? not that it matters, just curious :)

jane, my golden was the same, hers went pinky when due for season, and also in winter (its called winter nose in some breeds and snow nose in others) My spaniels' noses also go lighter in winter (they have liver noses ) so its a bit of hormones and weather in my opinion. but in general some breeds have both black and brown noses in any case.
