Taiko is now almost 7 months old. He doesn't chew indoors. He loves a good dig in the garden. The ongoing problem is he always shreds his beds. He'll start by attempting to dig them, then he'll rip the stuffing out. He has been through numerous blankets, duvets and two padded dogbeds. Is there anything available that'll deter him from attacking his beds? He sleeps on his bed, has numerous toys and chews. It just seems he enjoys bed shredding, regardless of type or stuffing. Any ideas would be appreciated :)

You can get some anti chew sprays but not sure of the practicalities of spraying an entire bed with it! Maybe worth a try to see if he stops this behaviour quickly and certainly will be cheaper than continually buying new bedding!

I used the anti chew on the furniture and it worked, but to be fair he was never a bad chewer anyway. I wasn't sure about using it on his bed because I didn't know if it would put him off sleeping there aswell, but it may be time to try :)
I saw something referring to bitterapple on here a couple of days ago and it got me thinking about perhaps soaking the bed in something......

Does Bitter apple have a smell? If it was odourless then it might work but if he could smell it when he goes over to his bed then it might make him uncomfortable?

I have no idea, I don't even know where you'd obtain bitter apple :)
You watch I'll use the spray ,then realise I've picked up the can of puppy toilet trainer and all hell will break loose :D

Julie ..email me your address , I have a bottle of Bitter apples you can have ..Hudson didnt bother about the stuff ...the only things that work with himn are oil of cloves or my expensive Dune perfume :D

We tried a type of bitterapple on the dining room table legs when the dogs were young, I used to apply it to the back of the spoon and then smear it on, but Dylan was licking it off as quick as I could put it on! And take it from me it tastes b***** awful, I got some on my fingers and accidently managed to taste it, well Dylan is 50% Lab!!! The best thing we found was raw onion juice smeared on, but the table was ruined long before then, and the fireplace etc etc etc. (We did know about crates before anyone writes in, but Dylan was totally cage shy, and age 4 is still petrified of small spaces, incl. the car.

Have you tried the Vetbed type of bedding? That stuff is very hard to shred, even 3 generations of malamutes have been unable to do more than a couple of holes and a bit of fringework on my oldest fleece (which is well over 10 years old).

Just take the bedding away and let him sleep on the floor.

Hi Jue, those trampoline type ones look like they cant be chewed easily, although v. v. expensive, but then if you have to replace duvets/blankets often it will work out the same cost in the long run. mine had a ripfest a while back of the cushiony duvet type, so switched to vetbed and fleecy blankets, and apart from the odd nibble, no ripping has occured. Julie:)
Dave, jue wouldnt do that - she's a HIPPY! LOL - Dont you crochet all your blankets then jue??? LOL Julie:)

Dave does have a point though. None of mine have ever had a bed. Rosie now thinks her brother is a woosie :D They have a choice of either the ceramic tiles in the kitchen or the laminate flooring in the hall. Then again, I am a cruel heartless woman ;)

Same here,
None of my dogs have a bed.
They prefer to sleep on the cold floor in the kitchen or the wood floor in the hall.
one girl even sleeps by the back door because she likes the draft.
Jessie

Mine are quite the opposite, and love to snuggle down in blankets. One has mastered the art of entirely covering herself up with a blanket and even tucks it in all around her - her bed looks as if it has the most
enormous cushion! The other know
not to lie on her, or there'll be trouble!

Have to say , Hudson HAS a bed ..but doesn't use it ...he sleeps on the carpet generally ..as close to the patio doors as possible :) You can always tell where he has been sleeping from the matt of white hair on the floor ;)

Okay I'll go off and purchase vetbed and give it ago....no doubt he'll still ravish it and bury it,but at least it'll be in one piece!:D
Jue!!!:) I did think of putting a CND logo on the bed and maybe attempting to stage a protest......"oh, the bed's comfy,
so give fleece a chance...."
but seeing what he did to my flowerpower garden,I'm sticking with the V sign/salute and allowing him to work through his anger :D Perhaps if I had crocheted more he wouldn't be acting out? :D
Julie :)

Do you want the bitterapple stuff?
