Hi
I am the proud owner of a 2 year old rottie, he has an excellent temperament, and very well behaved. You may think well what's the problem? When anyone comes to the door he doesn't bark. I know that the Rottie has a 'wait & see' approach however I'm not sure how he would react if intruders got into the house, I think I'm more worried for him, because he's such a softie could he be lured away? I don't know. Any suggestions how I get him to let people know that he's in the house?

Hi Carole
I would just be happy that you have a quiet dog <g>. Most people want to know how to shut their dog up rather than make it bark.
Have you tried having someone go to the house and prowl around when you are not there to see how he reacts - you may (or may not) be surprised.
Does he ever bark, what sets him off. Some dogs will bark when they get excited so if you rush madly to the door everytime the bell rings and play with him there this may set him off - you would need someone to stand around outside ringing the bell for you though unless you have one of those remote ones that you could press yourself.
Think very, very carefully about this before you try to get him barking though :)
