Right now I have my darling puppy OES and today he had his first "sloppy" poopie whilst out walking, I did my best with bag to collect it up for disposal and returned home where his lovely hairy bottom was a little "dirty" Thankfully kitchen towel wiped it clean but my question is if it had been worse how do you clean the rear end and hair of poopie?? baby wipes came to mind but not sure if there is not something better.........you never know when I may need this knowledge hence I ask now so I can be prepared!!!

Thanx

I tend to go for kitchen paper first, then a bowl of warm water and a cloth, with the offending end between my knees. Is your OES bobbed, or do you have a great feathery tail to clean too?

I was on the right track with the kitchen paper then!!!

In this instance I am pleased he is bobbed! although this was not a severe bout of runnies (cant spell dia....) it has taught me to forarm just in case!!
and the offending end between my knees is also a god hint as I did have a spot of bother trying to get him to keep still for wiping!

I am yet to see an unbobbed OES , as a novice dog owner and only now learning so much more than I thought I had already learnt prior to buying our pup I didnt realise there are un-bobbed OES !

Thanx for the hints!

I'm sure you'll have plenty of practice! ;) I'm used to the feathery rumps of border collies so I do have the tail to cope with:(
It doesn't matter how many years you've had dogs, or how many dogs you've had, there's always more to learn. That's why this site is so addictive.:)

My Rough Collie had this problem now and again - bucket of warm water poured over his backside pretty much did the trick - but if it dries, well thats a different story. I just used to keep his hair round his backside trimmed well. No such problem with my Vizsla - doesn't have the runs and even if he did NO HAIR - brilliant!

Great advice! Today he had it again and it dried before we got home so a bucket of warm soapy water & comb and away we went! oh and son holding him with a handful of treats!!

thank god for the experience of 3 kids and clear ups like this not turning my stomach! Never thought there would be a day when I could do this for a dog but I surprised myself !and he didnt seem to mind either!

Hi Jude
I had and OES who passed away six years ago (aged 12) and I remember, clearly, the bottom cleaning troubles. My solution was similar to those mentioned already. If it had dried before reaching home I got a watering can (you know the kind with the rose head on the nozzle) filled with warm soapy water and a soft brush (kept only for this purpose of course :D ). Freeway did not like this one bit so I also needed and extra body to hold his lead and talk soothingly to him :-).
They are such fun dogs with great characters that the bottom cleaning is definitely worth it!

Hi Jude

I sometimes have this problem with the tt's. I found the best thing to clean their 'bums' with is the 'original wet wipes' produced by Jeyes. I buy the tub for home and have the handy pocket size with me when we go out. I think they smell nice too
Carol :D

Just noticed that I put 'wet wipes' they are actually called 'wet ones'

The wipes - good idea!! we had another one today and it was hellish to get off my hands after picking it up whilst we were out!
I am sure the kids are feeding him too many treats to cause this loose poopie!

Try giving him some live yoghurt - Actimel, or the like. It might just sort the problem out from the other end!:)

My RC only had this due to colitus (or however its spelt) - so bouts could be bad when they did happen - definitely better to try and "bucket" off when not dried on though! Good luck!
