I just read an article saying that research in USA had proved that labradors (being a typical, medium sized short coated dog) live, on average, 18 months longer if they are fed 25% less food than recommended by food manufacturers.

Perhaps that is why there are so many obese dogs about - people feed what it says on the packet, and don't judge by their own dog.

hi Jeangenie - thats the philosophy behind the 'Burns real food for dogs ' food too. John burns also says that most dogs are overweight, and keeping them on the lean side in beneficial to their health. Julie:)

I read that article too! I've always kept my dogs lean as I hate fat dogs. The way I gauge my dogs weight is that their hip bones don't show. If they do then that is too lean but if they lose their waist line then that's too fat! :D
