My puppy Amber play fights with Jake my older dog but around Jakes neck he has dried blood where she has pulled and bitten him is there any way I can stop her doing this Jake has a open show soon and I am worried that if he has dried blood and lumps on his neck he will lose points.
I have tried combing it out but she goes back in for the kill so I am losing the battle.
Any ideas would be great

Some of the pet repellent sprays such as bitter apple can be sprayed safely on to a dog's skin and fur and will hopefully deter your Amber :) However the bitter smell can also linger for a long time and so may not be very nice for Jake :( Maybe try oil of cloves or Vicks just for a bit (OK it's messy but if it works.....)

It may be best in the long run to exert some control over the interractions of the 2 of them, as it sounds as if Jake may be a little too nice to her. One day Amber may try to play like this with a different sort of dog as she may think it is OK.

Do u have a collar on the older dog? I know they like to pull and grab the collar. My BT was doing this to our other one and she would get his neck everytime she grabed his collar, he had dried blood from it, I removed the collar off him and now she has nothing to grab onto when they are playing. His neck cleared up real good.
ttfn :)

Jake does not have a collar on in the house.
The problem is that because he is a golen retriver he has very loose skin around his neck and mouth and so she grabs this.
I will try the stuff that Lindsey has said about and see how we go the only other thing to do is that before taken him to a show I will try and keep him apart from Amber.
Thanks for the advice
Nina
