I'd advise you to get "the Book of the Bitch" by Evans and White and start reading!!
Your description of "stuck together" sounds pretty normal so if you didn't know that then heaven help her when she has her litter.
Please read the book and learn from it - you owe it to your bitch to be more informed or you could lose her and any pups she may have at birth :(

Have you done any research into breeding at all???Responsible breeders research not only the basics of what happens during the actual act of mating but also such things as compatible pedigrees etc.....Oh and not to mention healthchecks e.g hip scoring.

Thanks for your reply, no I only have a male doberman and I'm waiting till he is a year old until I look for abitch, so I'm just trying to find out some information first as I would want it all to go well for my dog and the bitch and make sure they are both healthy, if you know any information or books to advice me I would be very greatful

Check out the links posted by eogania on this thread The costs ££££££ of breeding. The one called Virtual breeding is a real eye opener. Remember you are as responsible as the bitch owner for puppies sired by your dog. will you be prepared to take in at any age a dog sired by him. this may be one that has come unstuck through change in circumstances, or a delinquent that has been rejected for his behaviour due to lack of training.
There is a lot to think about, and a first step would be contacting your dogs breeder for advice (assuming they are a responsible knowledgeable breeder) and joining your National and Regional breed clubs. You will then be wnst yearbooks and newsletters, schedules for shows, and details of seminars etc.

Kebab , best thing to do is go back to the breeders of your dog and talk to them before you do anything. You don't say what breed he is , but you will need to make sure he has had all the relevant health checks and is a very good example of his breed

Thanks for your reply, the breed of my dog is a Doberman Pinscher, unfortunatly the breeder did not plan to breed and has not looked into breeding as it was too late. Any help in finding out the right way to go about breeding for the dogs best interest.

Join the dobermann breed clubs and attend events. If yo7r dog was bred by someone who knew little about it, and did no research it may be that your boy is not of suffiecient quality to be bred from. That soesn't matter you can still take part in Obedience and other events run by these and other clubs.
The clubs run all manner of educational events. I belong to the South West Doberman C lub, and attended healthand nutrition seminars, and a judging seminar last year, this is the way to learn.

Hi there! I have to agree with the other posts...you really should have researched a bit better before allowing your dog to be bred...but now you need help, not a lecture. Were you able to find a few books that were helpful?? Your first priority should be your bitch and her pups...all you can do at this point is learn all that you can about pregnancy and whelping. When you think you are prepared, go back and read it all again...because you can never be too prepared. Trust me....every litter is different but the first is nearly gut-wrenching with anticipation. Make sure you have your whelping kit ready long beforehand. Learn to accurately take her temperature. Make certain that you are prepared to take off from work to be with her...never leave your bitch alone to whelp. Can you imagine coming home to find her dead or very ill and the puppies dying??
Read, read, read and then read some more. Start lining up puppy buyers now....and be prepared for over half of them to back out once the pups are born...so line up more than you think you will need. Start a waiting list. Make sure the data that you keep is accurate and lengthy.
I raise Yorkshire Terriers and I am afraid that I do not know much about Labs...at least as far as whelping but you have made a good start to your education...the web is an ulimited source for information. Please take advantage of that resource. I wish you luck but please do not rely on luck. Speak with your vet, contact other breeders. Do not be deterred by negative comments...yes, you made a mistake...now learn from it and improve the situation!!

Christiane, why are you suggesting that other have not been helpful, they have given the best advice they can and much the same as you have. Where are the lectures. I thought under the circumstances the posts were very controlled. Jackie

Why do people think because they have bitch they must breed from her and if it's male it must be used at stud. Please first time wanna be breeders do your homework. Study your breed, speak to successful breeders, ask loads of questions, speak to the breeders of your dog and take their advice. I was once told only breed for the betterment of the breed and if your planning to breed pets.....DON"T you can get plenty of them from any Cat and Dog home. Sorry to sound off but I do get a bit annoyed when people breed willy nilly for next to no thought going into it. Guess a lot of this stems from me working with my own breed's rescue. Once again I apoloigse for going off on one of my tangents but it's only because I care.
