So the choices seem to be
a) are Salukis naturally silent? Answer no! No dog is, (although "people" say basenjis are silent, they are not, they don't bark, but emit a cross between a yodel and a blood-curdling scream!) (No offence to basenji owners! :)
Or b) Do they get de-barked? Again no - not in the UK anyway, because the operation is illegal (I think)

i have found that salukis will bark and give warning when stangers apear but for most of the time are silent. from the video footage i have on salukis the dogs sound off when strangers come near to the masters tents but again for the most of the time are in fact silent.
