have 14 wk old pup who proving very difficult to train. take her out regularly and praise her whenever she performs but she will insist on peeing on the other dogs beds and her own. Also pillows, the couch ,scales. Also when we go a walk she does not often pee or poo, she likes to wait until she gets home and I don't know how to get the message across. Help, am getting desperate.

Hi dognut ....I wouldn't worry about the not pooing and peeing whilst on a walk ...as far as I know this is quite a common thing ..my own dog was the same ..one day you will be out and she will do it , then you will soon be wishing she hadn't started.

14 weeks is still very young ...maybe if you took her outside every 15 minutes or so during the day and stayed there with her until she has done something ..THEN praise her up? Have you had the vet check her over to make sure she hasn't got a urine infection or something similar?

If you do a Search here on Champdogs you can find quite a lot of older threads about housetraining ...maybe something there will help

My Border Terrier pup has been a bit slow on the uptake as well although I followed all the recommended methods. At 6 months she is getting there now so I really wouldn't lose heart after 14 weeks. I've been quite relaxed about it all (easy as we are totally gutting our house so don't have posh carpets) and I think this helps. As for not going on walks and waiting until she gets home my pup started off by doing this but as her confidence grew started going when on walks.

If your Border is anything like mine she will do ANYTHING for a treat so the best reward my girl can get when she goes outside is a small bit of carrot, now when she has been to the toilet in the correct place she dashes inside and sits in front of me as if to say 'ok, now you keep your side of the deal'!
