Topic Dog Boards / Breeding / Could she be pregnant after all??
- By kia mummy [gb] Date 06.01.03 18:33 UTC
We had one of our ESS mated 6 weeks ago. She has shown no outward signs of pregnancy so we assumed that she wasn't and put it down to bad timing .However during the last week she has been off her food and very aggressive towards both her mother and sister. She's usually very laid back and definately the lowest in the pecking order, but lately she's more assertive and dominant over her sister. She's also very protective towards us.Now I realise this may have absolutely nothing to do with a possible pregnancy and I have made an appointment with my vet but I just wondered what any of you think

If not pregnant, perhaps a phantom????
Good luck at the vets though :)

Mine showed no signs of pregnancy and my vet told me it was a phantom - even my father in law told me it was a phantom and he's been breeding borzoi's in france for 25 years and is an international judge!! To humour me my vet said i could feed her puppy food and increase the amount 'just in case' but I knew he thought I was getting excited over nothing! two weeks later she had her puppies... By 6 weeks though my bitch's nipples had changed and she was swelling as though filling with milk... but no puppies could be palpated at all! What is ur girls undercarriage like?

My bitch is due and right from the start she was far more affectionate and clingy with us. I have also noticed she has spats with her daughter which never happened before she was pregnant, she seems less tolerant of her antics and if she tries to make her play she soon lets her know she is not interested.(My expectant bitch is top dog) She has been sick twice in the morning and now looks like she has swallowed a melon, bless her. Her appetite is huge, she will eat anything. She seems more tired than anything and does not go as crazy when she sees me first thing on a morning and once round the block is quite enough for her at the moment.
It might be an idea to have her scanned just to be sure.
Best Wishes,
Amy

It hardly seems worth the expense of getting her scanned as there is such a short time to go.To look at her she doesn't show any signs, her teats are normal.I have had a bitch with a phantom and she looked more pregnant than this one does.I really dont think she is and I'm just being hopeful.Vets tonight maybe he can feel something but I think it's a no show, which is dissapointing but not the end of the world.I'm more upset for the people on the waiting list who are eagerly awaiting news

Don't forget Phil's 'little' surprise ;) ;) :D -- there was absolutely NO indications of weight gain that she was pregnant and she was happily playing with others the morning of her whelping day :) :D :) :D

Just got back from the vets and I'm still none the wiser.Vet had a feel around and declaredthe examination inconclusive, however said he couldn't rule out a pregnancy as if she only has one or two they could be high up so best wait and see. That was a complete waste of money then wasn't it

I wonder why they can't do a simple blood test on pregnancy like on humans????
I"m sure there's some 'official' explanation out there... but seriously, it would be soooooo much more efficient  :)
