My favourite is Arden Grange. they do two ranges Arden Grange and Arden Grange Classic. http://www.ardengrange.com/site2.htm

I use the original Arden Grange range, as it has the higher meat content. From this range with my meium sized breed I have used Adult, and Prstige. the lattter for dogs that were needing building up, such as nursing bitches, and growing puppies. Adult is great from 9 months if the pup is a well grown greedy one, but I used the Prestige on my anorexic, as she would eat very little of anything, and the high nutrient density kept her going on what little she would eat.

I think Arden Grange is good too. But my favourite is Nutro, it seems to suit my bred very well and it has no nasty additives etc.

One I found that bought Curtis (my almost 9 month old pup)on was Royal Canin. After his dam & grandam came into season when he was 5 months old (Too young for "action" but it got the hormones working!!!), he dropped an awful amount of weight in a week. I got him RC Puppy for large breeds, sprinkled a bit of grated cheese over and he never looked back, all the body went back on in a week. Now he eats me out of house & home.....

Brainless, what would you say in Arden Grange's range would suit a bottomless pit, 8 & half old month old Munster boy? Plus his "exercise-junkie" big sister?

Whilst ur on the topic of food. I feed my 7week westie 20g of pedigree chum puppy 4 times daily( as on packet). I was going to try IAMS but it is double the price or more per Kg. I dont want to scrimp on my pup, but is IAMs so much better than ped chum puppy (dry). He also has turkey and veg mashed up, and an egg for lunch (instead of one of the 4 meals) - He loves these, but is it ok do this? Sorry to be a pain - still learning.

Lindsay 01,
I was told that pups should not have any vegetables under the age of 6 months old ?
Is this right ?

Linsay, there has been lots of discussions on Iams, do a search at the top right hand corner, and have a read. Julie:)

Lindsay,

This is my advice for IAMS-don't go there..if you can afford to feed something in the region of the price of it, go for Arden Grange or Nutro.
- By nicolla [gb] Date 01.01.03 21:30 UTC
I feed all mine Nutro and they look great.
The nutro performance is even fine for our rotti with her colitis.

I feed Eukanuba lamb and rice. It does good for my dogs, and have never had a problem with it. Had problems with other dog food. I think it is what does good for ur dog. Some may good for one but not another.
ttfn :)

I wil go research that now. Vegs were cooked and pureed. Saw it on west highland site. Biscuits have veg in em anyway. Will go research iams though thanksxxx

Lindsay
that wasnt criticism by the way - i just wondered whether some breeds are more able to digest veggies more than others .

EUKANUBA!!! eukanuba!! about £39.99 a sack (15 kg) but worth every penny!!
- By Zoebeveridge [gb] Date 01.01.03 21:11 UTC
Hills is good too~same price range
- By Brainless [gb] Date 01.01.03 22:07 UTC
It is dear when you compare the ingredients, meat isn't even the first ingredient! Hills that is, so I would prefer to spend the money on an animal (higer quality) protein based food.

Zoe, Eukanuba is IAMS , its the same company that does all that horrific testing on dogs, check out this site and look up pet food Iams http://www.uncaged.co.uk - I would definitely not recommend anyone use it - all those additives too! Julie:(
- By lel [gb] Date 01.01.03 22:35 UTC
I thought Eukanuba was supposed to have no additives etc ,
What about James Wellbeloved - does anyone have any experience of this brand ? Claims to be all pure etc ?

Lel, james wellbeloved is a good one, and so it Burns http://www.Burns-pet-nutrition.com Julie:)
- By Zoebeveridge [gb] Date 02.01.03 09:26 UTC
i didnt realise it was an iAMS product. As pup was brought up on this, and recomended by breeder~what do you suggest i do? i dont want to support a company that does this~by buying the product~but dont want to go against my breeders advice or damage te health of my pup.
Any suggestions??

stop panicking Zoe:D If you wish , (that is only if you really choose to) change your pups food then a gradual change over onto whichever brand you prefer won't do any harm. It avoids tummy upsets. You do it over a period of time, mixing in a little of the new food and slowly changing over the quantities from old to new , until you end up with all new:) But only do it, if you feel it is right for you and your dog. Everyone feeds different food. If you do a search (top right) on IAMs/Euk you will get a lot of info up as to what different people feel about it, alot of breeders swear by it. so it is up to personal opinion :) Julie:)

Hi Zoe,
All my dogs are on Eukanaba and most of the top Newfie breeders use this product, I personally would keep her on it if she is eating well, what was her Mum like, was she fed the same as the puppies and was she in good shape? Everyone has their preference to what food they use, but if the puppy is happy and well, i personally would stick to it.

I agree, why change the food if ur pup is doing good on it, u could change it then ur pup may not do as well on the next food. Choices, choices
ttfn :)
- By Brainless [gb] Date 01.01.03 22:05 UTC
The most nutritious one which is the Prestige, unless of course the bottomless pit is greedy and already well covered, then I would have them on the Adult.
- By dizzy [gb] Date 01.01.03 22:45 UTC
mine have done very well on eukanuba-if you read the other thread recdog food [arden grange] youd see some are losing condition on it.ive tried many and best results from euk with nutro a close second
- By muddydogs [gb] Date 01.01.03 22:51 UTC
Hi dizzy, different food suits different dogs and people:D although I would recommend Burns when asked, it didn't actually suit Decoy although the others were doing fine on it, I recently switched to Autarky which they all are doing brilliantly on, Decoy finally looks like we feed him:D But everyone has their own favs:) Julie:)
- By Karen.T Date 01.01.03 22:57 UTC
I found it hard to keep weight on my BC and tried tinned dried etc in the end the one that worked is nutro.

Euk/Iams u say is bad because of all the animal testing, yes don't agree on the testing but how would we know whether it would be good for our dogs or not without it. Lots of stuff is always tested on animals whether people like it or not. We would not have the medicine, shampoo's, perfume, ect (list goes on) we have today if it was not for animals testing. My opinion I truely think they should use humans instead like the ones that have been proven with out a doubt of being guilty of a horrific crime like murder ect (Jeffery Dalhmer) instead of poor innocent animals. Thats just my own personal opinion. I probable should not even go there.
I find Eukanuba and Iams too be very good dog food. This food may work on some dogs and not on others, all dogs are different and so is all dogfood, so u have to find what is the best for ur dog. Good luck
ttfn :)
