Topic Dog Boards / Health / bones and barf

Hi everyone.

I'm totally sold on the idea of raw/natural feeding, although I wouldn't call myself a true 'barfer':)
Sonny has been on the diet for some weeks now and my only real concern is that I have noticed when he's left bits of chicken wings, the bits are really sharp. I know that the bones are good for him but I do worry about damage to his intestines, etc.......any thoughts?

I wouldn't worry too much about the bones he leaves. They may look sharp but chicken bones (raw) are quite soft and bendy.
If they're coming out like that though your dog may not be digesting them fully. I'd give live yoghurt or prozyme to get some good bacteria going....or you could bash the living daylights out of them with a hammer for more peace of mind ;)
When digestion is working properly with a BARF fed dog, the bones are soon turned into a mulch so aren't likely to cause any damage.
