In the light of all the horrible stuff going on on Champdogs at the moment, I would like to lighten things up a bit by saying a big THANK YOU to all who have shown such concern and given advice about Alfie. I would especially like to thank Sharon Mcrea, Jackie H, Ingrid and SaraW who have emailed me personally with help, ideas and support in what was a really awful time for me (and for poor Alfie).
I visited Alfie this afternoon and he had eaten 3 small meals and had several drinks without being sick. His bloods are almost back to normal- to give you an idea of just how ill he was, his urea level on Friday was 44- normal level up to 9- today's level 12.5, creatinine on Fri was 450- normal level up to 150- today's level 178. I find it amazing that he could recover so quickly, especially considering that treatment was started 2 days later than it should have been. He does look a bit thin though, but we'll soon get the weight back on him.
So as long as he is not sick again, he can come home tomorrow, and blood tests will be repeated on Thursday. I am so excited about having him home- It feels almost like getting a new puppy- I don't even mind that I can't go out on New Year's eve!!
Thanks again to everyone- you're not such a bad lot after all!!
Liz and Alfie xx

im thrilled for you :D -goodluck with him,
Great to hear the good news about Alfie.
Reading about his blood results brought back memories of when my previous dog went into kidney failure a few years ago. Sadly he did not make it but I will never forget that feeling of helplessness when all you can do is just will them to pull through.
It's so good to hear about a happy outcome - enjoy spoiling him, you both deserve it !! :)

Liz,
I've just got back to work (my only access to the web) and have caught up with Champdogs. I was shocked to hear about what happened to Alfie. I'm so pleased he's on the mend. What an awful time for you. Is he home now with the rest of the crew? I bet he was missed by the others!

Hi There
I am new to these boards (that is newly registered although I have 'lurked' for a while but I registered so that I could let you know how pleased I am to know that Alfie is on the mend. I have been really worried about him.
I am a recent convert to dog ownership (got our first dog (JRT) 16 months ago and adopted a second 3 months ago) and I absolutely adore them! Can only imagine how awful this was for you.
But did a happy dance when I heard that Alfie was on the road to recovery. A Happy New Year to you both!
Karen
