I couldn't find anything, so I started breaking down the term.
from
Medical DictionaryHypo- (prefix): Prefix meaning low, under, beneath, down, below normal. For example, hypocalcemia is low calcium in the blood and hyposensitivity is undersensitivity.
The
opposite of hypo- is hyper-, as in hypercalcemia, high blood calcium and as in hypersensitivity, oversensitivity.
Immunoglobulin: A protein produced by plasma cells and lymphocytes. Immunoglobulins are an essential part of the body's immune system which attach to foreign substances, such as bacteria, and assist in destroying them. Abbreviated Ig.
The classes of immunoglobulins are immunoglobulin A (IgA), immunoglobulin G (IgG), immunoglobulin M (IgM), immunoglobulin D (IgD) and immunoglobulin E (IgE).
Immunoglobulin A: A major class of immunoglobulins found in serum and external body secretions such as saliva, tears, and sweat as well as in the gastrointestinal, respiratory, and genitourinary tracts. Abbreviated IgA.
Nothing for "Almia" or anything similar, sorry :(

I did find
Imunodeficiencies in dogs and cats with CFS
This was also referred to on an Equine site:
"The continual secretion of adrenalin, greatly reduces the neural impulse, and blood supply to the mucous membranes. The membranes become less moist. Immunoglobulin A (IgA) has difficulty crossing the membranes to protect the horse from respiratory diseases."
Apparently Beagles and shar pei have a breed disposition for lacking IGA. I came across that mention a couple of times.
Make sure that it's Hypo and not Hyper. They each have their own problems. But since I"m not sure exactly what you are looking for, I can't be more specific in results.
I did discover Selective IgA as an account by a Chow owner whose dogs had something like this. Not sure if it's the same as your friend.
I hope this helps you out a bit.
