Hi,
I believe you have to wait a few days before you can actually see the aforementioned monkeys as they are microscopic, and you dont feed them for a few days or something. There is a web site for them, think its on the packaging

Sorry to ask but WHAT ON EARTH ARE SEA MONKEYS???????.
Nina
- By Lynsey [gb] Date 28.12.02 00:21 UTC
they are actually little water fleas and such like, kids get them in kits as eggs, hatch them in purified water in a tank and then there you have them sea monkeys to look at

I was always told and read that sea monkeys are Brine Shrimp, good food for raising young fish like baby guppies, black moors ect. I had sea monkeys when I was young, they only lived a couple of months. Then just got newts and fish.
ttfn :)
- By eoghania [de] Date 28.12.02 08:56 UTC
Yep, I learned they were "Brine Shrimp" also :)

I am amazed the animal rights lot haven't got onto this yet!!!!
- By Lynsey [gb] Date 28.12.02 10:12 UTC
well mine were water fleas. they hopped around the water tank
(am wondering now whether I did these monkeys right) were they supposed to be shrimps or are there different sorts, these were little things hoping and skipping :D around tank, looked nothing like anything that could be described as a shrimp..

In a frenzied mass session of spawning we are now the proud parents of a zillion sea monkeys ( maybe i should move this thread to the breeders section :D
At the moment they are just sort of suspended but I have every confidence that we shall soon have a band of all singing all dancing sea monkeys :D
Liz ( mother to monkeys -land and sea :D )

" maybe i should move this thread to the breeders section "

reminds me of popping to my sisters house once-after fighting through the rotts and the lhasa, i heard "for gods sake, whos spilt the monkeys all over the kitchen floor" -hurry up and save them-yikes, id not ever heard of them before that :D
- By Louisdog [gb] Date 30.12.02 00:02 UTC
Hooray! Hope they are doing everything that the booklet says they will; mine never did :-(

I bought a kit a couple of years back and had them keeping me company on my desk at work, they were in the castle dome tank, then I had a couple of days off and while I was away, tragedy struck - a colleague thought they were a snow-storm and picked the tank up and shook it; DISASTER! My friend who had been looking after them had to mop them off my desk! The rest lived ages though :-) - but I never managed to teach them tricks like the booklet says you can.

Hope you have thought of enough names for them all :-) :-) and can tell them apart :-)
- By mel78 [gb] Date 07.03.03 13:57 UTC
i always thought that my dad was having a laugh when he spoke of sea monkeys, but when i saw a kit in mothercare i bought him them as a gift.he was well chuffed.i also got a doulble kit for my kids, there were sea monkeys and triops.the water in the triops turns to a green sludge and it stinks, you cant clean it out cause you would pore them away, you can top up the water but i found this ineffective.the advantage of the triops is that they are a lot bigger a lot quicker.i shant be getting more,it is the same as fish with kids the novelty wears off quickly.

I had some very prolific guppies that used to feed the bigger fish, I started separating the pregnant females but there are only so many guppies that you can pass onto friends !!!!!! Ingrid
- By dollface Date 29.12.02 00:09 UTC
Have u put a bright light on them, they are pretty tiny and hard to see for the first bit. If u did all ur packages right and never squeezed them I'm sure u should have little sea monkey/brine shrimp soon.
ttfn :)
- By steve [gb] Date 30.12.02 08:24 UTC
Hee hee - yes they all have names and we've put a blob of nail varnish on their toes so we can tell them apart :D
I've put paper at one end of the tank but they just have no idea about the house training !!
we thought abot a crate but they just swim through the bars ,
Today i'm going to try them out with collars and leads ( can't go out yet ,no jabs :D )
we are going to do agility with them, bit like that michael Benteen(?) --Potty Time ( Snorri --help me out here ,please ;) )
now --what to feed ........complete or raw ???????
more dilemas...........:D :D :D

Morning all !!
our lovely bundles of joy are now 3 days old :) and are starting with their first words-Of course it's hard to tell what they are saying as it's all bubbles :D

I thought one was saying 'mmmmmmama' but steve said it was 'let me out ' and the eldest thought it was 'OY What you lookin at ' so who knows ???
So far no problems with dominace issues who is top prawn and the feeding is going swimmingly :D

we did have a few upset faces last night as him and me sat down to evening meal of pasta with prawns but a well placed t-towel did the trick and saved them from further distress
I shall keep you informed of their progress :D

Aw, that's too bad. Sometimes when you first start, you get a faulty batch. They all have broken spines due to heriditary problems, there are some great sites to visit for them. I am not sure how to post address's without getting my post banned, so if you e-mail me I will send them to you. Best of all, they come with a gauruntee, so a new batch is free!
- By steve [gb] Date 19.02.03 15:26 UTC
Melody - thankyou for the link:)

Rudysmum -Thankyou for your kind offer I may just take you up on that :)
I shall have a sqizz round the sites on the link and see what i can find
Liz :)
- By mel78 [gb] Date 07.03.03 14:00 UTC
