Topic Dog Boards / Health / Help - thirsty puppy

We have a problem with our neighbour, who feeds the local fox community. He leaves food for them in the field next to our house at night. This morning our puppy ate a large quantity of what looked like dry dog food. I know that the neighbour usually adds medicine to the food to prevent mange etc. Later the puppy (7 months) drank a large quantity of water and then pee'd in the kitchen (very unusual for her). Do you think that this food caused this ? She does seem to be drinking less now, but I will keep an eye on her ! Do you think that it will do her any harm ? I would have a word with the neighbour but they have recently had a bereavement and don't want to upset them.

Thanks

Daisy

If she's not used to dry food then she will have felt thirsty - dry food needs additional water to aid its digestion - it shouldn't cause her any problems. I'm not sure about the mange treatment, if you're worried see if you can speak to your vet - and be thankful that the local fox population is being treated, it'll lessen the chance of your dog getting it :-) The peeing was probably down to the extra demand being put on her bladder which she wasn't used to. - If you're worried - speak to your vet.
