I have been waiting patiently for our new baby,,,,,,,,,but she was born a month ago, and is 1/2 the size of her brother, who was born in the same litter. I am concerned that she is going to be too small. Also, read on the internet about yorkies being the wrong breed for families with small children. Now, I am all confused, cuz most of the info that I am reading about yorkies, is contridictory. Anyone with some advice? let me know. Thank you.

Hi momlise
I do not know any think about Yorkshire terriers and will not pretend I do but yahoo has a very large number of Yorkshire terrier chat rooms so if you are unable to get the advise you need then maybe you could try talking to some of these Yorkshire terrier owners.

Yorkies are not recommended for families with young children because it's easy to injure the pup. One hasty slam of the door is enough to seriously injure it. Same for any puppy, but with a breed as small as a Yorkie serious injuries are more likely. Plus, a Yorkie in the wrong place/wrong time is more likey, since they are a bit harder to spot than a Lab, for example. :-)

That's not to say that Yorkie's aren't good with children. They are as good as any breed of dog. My Yorkie, despite that fact that she was not used to children, would put up with almost anything without complaint.

As to the size of your new "baby", it's possible that her brother is oversized for the breed, which is common in Yorkies. (When they were ridding the factories in Yorkshire of vermin during Victorian times, they were bigger than they are today.) Your baby my be absolutely fine and even if she is small now will likely catch up a bit as she matures.
