Poppy, my border terrier puppy, is now 9 months old and started her first season 3 and a half weeks ago. The discharge finished about a week ago but she is still swollen 'down below' and her teats are still enlarged. I wondered how much longer this will last and whether males will still be attracted to her. She hasn't been let off her lead for a run since she came into season and I wondered if it would be safe to do so now. Thanks in advance for your help.
I would imagine she has dinished now, but would just watch her in the company of male dogs for a few days more. they usually do not return to as small below as before a first season, as the genitals have now matured.
The teats also will be more prominent than in a baby, but reduce in size over the next two months.

also keep at eye on her as she could be haveing a phantom pregnancy, this cold be the reson for enlarged nipples this can carry on throught all the stages and as long as it would take for a bitch to pup and will stop on what would have been the due whelping date. sandy
