Over the last few weeks my 9yr old gsd has been moulting more than ever before. yesterday he had vomited in his bed and is drinking more than usual, also I noticed his collar has become slack hence weight loss. Monday morning he will going to the vets for tests as there is obviously something wrong with him. All of a sudden he looks old in his face. Does anyone have any ideas on this?

On the subject of moulting, my 8 month old golden puppy seems to be moulting rather excessively too. Is it normal at this time of year because she does seem to be loosing hair in a very large amount. I was expecting it to happen when spring comes but is it normal now?
I would also like to say that I hope everything turns out OK with the GSD too.

Hi Debbie with bitches moulting is effected by hormones has she had her first season yet.If not then watch out in about 6weeks time or if she has was it early about 3 months ago? Or have you switched the central heating on recently :D Gillian

Debbie, my Sunny (Golden) was a constant hair machine - much worse pre season and then as gillian says when the heating went on - she just shed all year round infact! I think instead of a 'puppy pack' when you collect Golden pups you should get a complimentary Dyson!!!!!!:D :D :D

Rufus - How did you get on at the vets today - I agree with Speedsmum, have a thyroid test , and I would also be concerned about the Kidneys with the excessive drinking. I do hope all is well - Julie:)

Hi
Rufus I hope everything is OK with you.
Lacey has not had a season yet so perhaps that is it, also the central heating is on so maybe that is it or perhaps its a combination of the two. Also a Dyson would be very welcome. :D

Thanks everyone for replying. I took Rufus yesterday to the Vets. Checked his kidneys which are working fine, felt for any abdominal abnormalities (in the last few days he seems to be having trouble sitting down) the Vet could'nt find anything. Took blood tests which have been sent away, will be back in 5 days. We are giving him pain killers for 5 days to see if it improves his back. I'll keep you posted.
