I have been given a ham bone by my neighbour and am not sure if it is safe to give to my five month old cockler spaniel. Can anyone tell me if it is safe?

All bones should only be given raw, cooked bone becomes hard and briittle and easily splinters causing internal injury.

I would advise against given any dog a bone, raw or cooked.

Hi Guest, My dogs get RAW bones with plenty of meat on them almost daily. Never give any type of cooked bone.

Hi Guest,
I feed my girl raw bones only, never cooked. However with the exception at Christmas time she gets the ham bone, only when im with her though so i can make sure she only picks off the remainding meat. Once the meat has been picked off i take away the bone.

We were told not to give ham bones because of the high salt content(salt is what they usually use during curing)

Baked ham bones can shatter into razor sharp pieces :(
