Can anyone tell me if
When a judge uses a clip board to write down things about the dogs she is judging and hardly puts hers hands on any of the dogs that she is looking at, is this called point judging.
Just curious as at LKA our judge hardley touched any of the dogs and just wrote things about them.
I have never seen this before.
She would write down peoples numbers and then comments about them whilst judging.
Then when everyone stood there dogs for the final line up she would check her board to see who was who.
must admit i did see a snippet of her board when it was my turn and she had written the ladys number who was in front of me then next to it had written cr*p.
I think that that was pretty rude and cant see how she could say such things when she had not even put her hands on the dog, as it is a coated breed i would think that you needed to have hands on.
She would only move certain dogs and not others, can't understand this atall.
Can anyone explain this to me.
She was the same in all classes not just mine.

Was it a Foreign Judge?

No she was English and has been in the breed for a very long time, i have seen her judge many years ago and she was full hands on then , but she did take everyone by suprise.

Strange then, I always understood point judging to allocating points for different parts of the dog, head, shoulder, tailset, coat etc etc & you add up the points & keep in the highest scorers, it is a slow way to judge in this country. Often when judges have experienced judging abroad they like a grading system and they note down the exhibit number & give for example a cross, a tick or double tick. Then after looking at all the class they shortlist the doubleticks plus possibly the better ticks for a further look before placing.

I have only once been under a judge who didn't want to move all the class......they were foreign at a Breed Club Champ Show. A complaint was quickly put in via the Stewards and she was told that all dogs had to be given equal examination & movement opportunity to begin with, then they could shortlist.
