Stop me if i'm sounding stupid but is there still such things as dog licences. If so do you still get them from post offices and how much are they. (Britain)
Budmag
Excuse me LMAO but they used to be 37 1/2p or 7/6 in old money :p....and no you can't get them anymore (they were never compulsory). Nobody bothered much with them, although I did used to buy them for my dogs...honest :D

Laughing My A$$ Off :D
Not laughing at you, just the fact that they were so cheap and nobody bothered with them and yet they could have been put to good use...long day, does that make sense? ;)

Sorry to contradict but they were compulsory! Back in the '50 the police occasionally called around to see them! In later years no one ever checked up and I know several people who never held a licence in their life but they were breaking the law. I cant remember when the licence was stopped but would guess it was around the '70's
Regards, John
Urmmm, I wasn't around in the 50's John so I'll let you contradict me (this time ;) :D ) but I do know that it was the early 80's that they were done away with. I still have mine from when I had my Dobe'....<wondering if it's worth somfink yet?> :p

Yep, it was in the early 80's they were done away with. 7/6 they still cost (what was that in New Money - 37 and a half p).
Wow, broke the bank, eh?!!!

I got my old collie in '85 and you still needed a licence for her first couple of years.

I well remember my Dad treking off to the post office for his annual joke of asking for a black and white licence for our black and white dog :D
Of course there will be some youngens on here who won't know that there is a black and white TV licence

They are compulsory in Guernsey. As soon as your dog reaches six months of age you should have a licence for him/her. The cost if £5 per dog.
If something happens and your dog gets in trouble ie biting somebody and if you don't have a licence you can get in big trouble :(
I think they stopped around 1986 ish
