hi everyone
my ckcs jubilee is now 6 months old , she has never enjoyed any dog food i have tried her on always seems to go off it after a week or so , but she just loves to eat the cats food.
i was just wondering if it would be alright to bring her up on whiskas just like the cat , i don`t know if it would be unsuitable for a dogs diet any advice would be great.
thank you

Hi Sam , cat food has a far higher protien content than dog food,in the longrun this could cause kidney problems, if you really feel your pups not enjoying commercial dog foods perhaps you might like to try feeding a natural raw diet, most dogs love it , if you type barf into the search engine on this site you will find lots of info about feeding this way.

Hi cat food is high in salt and also contains thiamin so not ideal as a staple diet for dogs. Gillian

How about if you give her dog food with a spoonful of cat food mixed in. That's what I did when Thistle was going through her 'fussy' stage.

Hi,
I would also recommend the 'barf' or raw food diet. If you are worried about feeding whole bones, then feed pre-minced stuff, if its too much hassle to make your own mince and veggie mix, you can buy meat in blocks or free flow mince, and also veggie mix too, though it is far far cheaper to do the work yourself! then you can add variety to your dogs diet, mine get fish, lamb, beef, chicken, a whole range of fruit an veg, etc. No longer do i have fussy dogs who pick at thier food, have the runs, bad wind or hyperactive. Nope.
The other thing to do, is just get tough! Like a child, if you offer your dog new foods each week, she is gonna want to hold out and see if there is anything better on offer! Also, check the amounts of food you are feeding? If your dog doesnt actually get hungry, then it wont want to eat either!
Pick a food, and so long as you are happy with it, and your dog originally liked it, stick to it. Unless your dog is actually ill, it is not going to starve itself, no matter how pathetic a face it makes at you, dont give in! Put down the meal, adn wait 10 minutes. If it is not eaten, put it in the fridge, and give it back to your dog at the next meal time. (obviously, if the dog doesnt eat it then, chuck it and give fresh next time) also, if you are giving wet food, somedogs dont like it cold, straight out of the fridge). Dont give any treats, just the normal food. You will be suprised how quickly your dog begins to value food if you do tis!
Oh, but make sure there isnt a medical reason as to why your dog wont eat first!
