Does anybody know of anyone currently expecting a flatcoat bitch for arrival this autumn/winter in the East/South-east England ?

Have a look at our Flatcoat Retriever information. You will find breeder and breed club details. I am sure that someone from one of these sources can recommend a litter to you.

Best thing you can do, after, of course, you've read and digested the breed description on this page, is to phone up our litter recorder. I can give you her telephone number if you e-mail me a few details about your situation first.

I know of a litter due shortly in the area you require. First you ought to know a bit about the breed and also what you should ask the breeder for in the way of health checks. Please email me or ring and we can discuss what you need to know, and get good advice about where to buy a puppy from. I would not recommend buying a puppy via the Exchange and Mart. my email is foxpath4@yahoo.com or telephone 01844 299508 after 1:30pm.
I can also give you the phone number for Shirley Johnson who is the society liter register secretary. Are you looking for a pet, or do you plan to work or show the dog? Do be prepared to be thoroughly checked out as flatcoat breeders do NOT like dealers and we go to great lengths to try to deter them! :-)
Do ask the breeder for the BVA Certificates for both the sire and dam for hip scoring and for glaucoma testing. A good breeder will show you these usually before you ask!
Good luck in your search. Once you have your puppy there are training groups around for flatcoats, the Surrey Group being an excellent example. If you would like to attend the group before getting your puppy, so you know what you are letting yourself in for then I can give you contact numbers. In fact as breeders we do encourage people to go to these training days before buying so you can see flatcoats in large quantities!!!!
