Hi, My Bichon Frise puppy has tear stains on her eyes. We have tried cleaning them with cotton wool and cooled boiled water, but it doesnt work. We have also bought a lotion from the pet shop and used it daily as recommended but that hasnt worked either. Has anyone else ever had this problem and found something that works?? I will be so grateful for any advice.
TIA

If you enter tear stains and tear staining into Google you will get several sites to look at. I hope they help. Jackie

Hi,
My Peke's get tear stains, especially the white ones - I use Johnsons Tear Stain & Facial cleanser (available in the pet shops) it works very well - I have also used a little Johnsons baby oil on cotton wool which also works well but take care not to get it in the eye.

I had this problem with one of my clumbers and used a tear stain remover produced by the Southern Breeders Bichon Frise club. It was the only thing that I found that worked and it was realtively cheap.
That was serveral year ago and I don't know if they still ptoduce it or who to contact but I am sure if you talk to someone in the breed they will put you in touch with the right person.

When i got my Westie (Buddy) he had quite bad tear stains. I tried shop bought tear stain remover and other cleaners which did'nt work. I eventually got ontop of it by removing the sleep from the corners of his eyes daily to prevent further staining. He's had two coat trims which had got rid of established staining.
The first groomer i took him to sugested a small amount of vasaline in corner of his eyes(obviously without touching his eyes) to waterproof them. If i keep up with sleep removal he remains stain free.
Hope this is of some use to you.

I have found that the best form of tear stain removal is cleaning the area daily and removing sleep whenever I see it. I'm always wiping Buddy's eyes and the large stain that had grown has virtually gone:D
You can use vaseline to protect the area - I prefer just to wipe it with a clean tissue. I have uses proprietory tear stain removers and found they didn;t work. Putting a wee bit of tomato puree in the food helpd also.

I can't find a breeder of lowchens anywhere in the UK, do you know of a breeder?

When I had this problem with my puppy none of the 'tear stain' treatments worked and I was advised that it was because she was teething (at four months) and it was only a temporary problem but I have heard the Soda Water is the best thing to clean white faced dogs - eyes beard etc. I've yet to find out if it works ;)

Hi Em
I have a 16 week old bichon, Molly. I am using 'diamondeye' if you use it twice a day it works wonders I use cotton wool balls to wipe it. How old is your puppy, hope you have as much fun as we do. How is the toilet training going? we are struggling but I keep being told 'shes only a baby it will just click' WHEN!
Regards Pauline.
