hello i,m new here tday and need some help.i have a boxer barny who is 6 yrs old.we took him to the vets this morning and have had to leave him there in hospital to be put on a drip as he has lost some much weight so quickly and we have been told he is very poorly.he has suffered with ezcema type symptoms ever since he had a op to 3 yrs ago on his private bits in order for us to have a bitch and we have spents lots at the vets on tests and creams to get it right to no avail so we have treated it ourselves but it has got worse and so instead of keeping the dogs in the kids wooden and large playhouse we have kept theminside partly due to his health and we don,t leave them out in the cold anyway.well to cut a long story short since last night he has been very weak and off his legs in a way and i have eyes like golfballs and a breaking heart i am beside myself has anyone gone through the same as me?we did notice he ahd a poorly eye that has been weeping too and the vet thinks it,s a ulcer any boxer owners out there pleaseadvise me.as you can imagine my hubby is off sick from work we are on a low wage anyway and the vet has already told us for a couple of days stay it will run into a couple of hundred pounds ,i also have christmas and 4 kids to feed i know barny means more than any amount of money but has anyone got any advice for me i., desperate.
dawn

Dawn , if you are the UK you could always ask the Vet if you could do deferred payment , whereby you pay so much of the cost each month ...or maybe try the PDSA?
If the dog is ill you have to help it as I'm sure you know ....so get him to a vet and talk it over with him/her and see what they can come up with
Hope this helps

Welcome to the forum Dawn :-)
Have you discussed payment methods with your vet? I think you need to do so as soon as possible because until you have, you will not know where you stand :-)
Good luck

hi dee tee here.been crying all day as we had bad news about barny.thanks for advice by the way.barny is very ill and his redblood cells are producing too quickly there seems to be some trouble with his kidneys and liver.the vehas never seen these two problems together in a dog so young.they think it may be POLYCYTHEMIA.we have looked it up in humans and also dogs and its all to do with the bonemarrow i think by reading through the facts.has anyone heard of this disease in a boxer or any other breed.tomorrow we prepare for the worse thing having him put to sleep.my kids 10,8.7 and 4 are heartbroken as is my hubby sobbing like a baby at every opportunity.i know just by keeping him tday and euthanasia it will already be about £300 so the vet will have to come to some sort of arrangement with us its my bday tues too so i will hopefully have bday money as gifts so i will put that towards it.some bday eh!!!!ironically my staff who was 13 was put to sleep 2 yrs ago to the day tday he was 13 and had a tumor mind you and he was very aggressive tward barny so it softened the blow knowing there was no real illness signs there to suffer but with my baby being only 6 i feel as if i,m losing my mom who died very suddenly 12 yrs ago when i was 21 all over again.pray for barny and ny broken heart.
