Some people may remember that I posted a few weeks ago looking for a Lab for my Auntie. She then changed her mind and went to the local rescue home and picked out a little bitsa pup called Lucy.

Sadly it's all gone sour. Lucy soon showed herself as having an aggression problem. She had lived in another home before, the background of which we do not know. Anyway, she had a lunging habit. She lunged at my Aunt's grandaughter twice, and then at my cousin Johnny, from whom she drew blood. So we consulted the home for help. Alas after patience and trying, and believing that hopefully, it was a puppy thing that she's grow out of, last night proved to be the last straw. My Auntie was asleep on the sofa, my Uncle was reading the paper. Suddenly without warning Lucy, jumped on my Aunt and lunged, grabbing her chin. My Uncle got her off my Aunt. It was clear now that she had a serious aggression problem.

Given that Sam (her grandaughter), is only four and given how vicious she is, and that she has been aggressive towards other dogs, mine and our friends, who was staying with us, she had to make a tough decision and returned Lucy to kennels this morning. She is naturally quite upset to say the least and I'm feeling bad because I know a lot about dogs and even I couldn't come up with an answer.

She has decided to try again after Christmas. I hope it works out this time her luck with dogs has been bad and it's not been her fault.

Sorry to winge, but I needed to get this off my chest.

sorry to hear it, but im hoping the kennels do the right thing and not pass on the problems to some other unsuspecting family,----- a kind dog would be better off in its place :( they surely deserve anew home far more,

I feel so sorry for your Aunt and her Family, she has done her best trying to give this pup a new home, but when things go really wrong its so sad, I really feel for the puppy as well, what has happened to it before in previous home(s) to make it act like this. Your Aunt has done the right thing in giving back this puppy, I would as well ive got grandkids to protect. I do hope she manages to get another well behaved pupppy this time from a reputable breeder, then your Aunt can train the puppy the way she wants it to be. (((((( hugs))))))) to you all.

What a shame that things didn't work out. It does show though how terribly important it is for any dog coming into rescue to be thoroughly assessed before being re - homed. I know that some of the 'smaller' recue organisations use foster homes to help with this. I do hope your Aunt finds what she's looking for soon.

So sorry to hear about your Aunt's bad experience but that is an all too familiar tale. I co-own the cocker spaniel rage syndrome information centre website www.cockerspanielrage.org.uk The general scenario is that a dog becomes aggressive and bites several family members and may have even been diagnosed by a behaviourist as having Rage Syndrome and instead of having the dog put to sleep they manage to get the dog admitted to a rescue centre (often I suspect by not telling the true story). We have heard of several cases where a dog has had several homes before it is finally destroyed. Some of the rescue centres are very good and will not allow such dangerous dogs to be rehomed but there are some very bad ones out there. Anyone thinking of rescuing a dog should be very wary.
