Welcome to the forum.
Have a look at our
Siberian Husky Information pages. They include breed guides, information on breed clubs and breeders.I am sure that someone on these pages will be able to help you with your questions.

To be honest if you need to ask then maybe you have not looked into the breed enough.

Everyone has to start there search for information somewhere Alan. One of the first questions that most people ask is the Price! :-)
Leigh

If anyones first question to me is 'How much' they do not get any further, it is usually 'oh by the way how much are they' after we have had a long chat about the pros and cons of living with the breed!
You can ask the breed Club/Clubs for a guide to how much you would expect to pay from a reputable source!

Brainless, you are splitting hairs !!
For a start I said "One of the first questions" and secondly I didn't say to whom the question was directed! I do not consider it to be an unreasonable question to ask how much a puppy is going to cost at all ! Knowing how so called Reputable Breeders can charge obscene amounts of money for puppies, I would think that it was necessary to establish that you could actually afford the asking price before spending two hours discussing the merits of the breed with the breeder.I would much rather someone was upfront with me, then have them waiting for the right moment to ask the question that they no doubt would very much like to know the answer to, but are embarrassed to ask.

Right with you there Leigh! And some potential clients may feel they don't want to waste a breeders time if they can't yet make the asking price. Not everyone understands that breeders will happily chat to someone who is genuinly interested, even if they can't make the purchase price at this moment in time. You could have a good home waiting for your next litter in 12 or 18 mths time. And, I would have thought a message board would be the ideal place to ask this question? Would it hurt to say 'between £XXX and £XXX?' I think there are far more important considerations to make than turning someone down simply because they wish to know the asking price. After all, you wouldn't buy a car or washing machine, horse or goat without wanting to know the price. I happen to think the enquirer needs to know the financial outlay from the first enq. That is the purchase price, food, initial vets fees, insurance, dog training classes fees etc. and this chatted about in with all the other details should form the basis on weither they come out or not.

Hi
Agree entirely. People have often found out about the type of dog they want from books, internet etc, but until they ask somone "how much" they often haven't a clue what ball park they are in, especially if they are new to the world of dog ownership. Plus how do they know if they are getting ripped off!!
Not only can the quality of the ancestry affect price but so does location. people need to have an idea of what is a fair price for the dog they hope to own. It's only if people find out more about reasonable prices that we have a chance of stopping farmers who charge a fortune for poor quality breeding practices. If people find that they can get a much better quality pedigree for similar or often less cash then they will learn to avoid the farmers.

Do'ya know Alan, I've learned loads about ESSs since taking on Gem, but until I read your reply I hadn't even thought about how much a puppy etc would cost.
Weird eh?
And now of course I've got to go and find out ;)
Oh! well, I can always work tomorrow :)
AlanJ
PS I bet she wouldn't cost as much as she's worth!
